Shane Alva Eller, age 63, passed away suddenly at his home in Morrisville, NC, October 28, 2023. He was the son of Gregory C. Eller and Joan K. Powell and spent his first nine years in Richland County, Ohio. In 1969, his mother married Allan R. Powell (known as Dad) and moved to Hagerstown, Maryland where he was nurtured to adulthood.
Shane spent his teen years on the Sheedy Farm where he and his friends rode horses, baled hay, and participated in horse races. In high school, he worked at the Elks Club in Hagerstown. Shane graduated with the Class of 1978 from South Hagerstown High School. He enjoyed math and wrestling. In 1981, he completed his apprenticeship with Landis Tool Company and received his Journeyman's license in Metallurgy.
In 1983, Shane married his sweetheart, Melissa D. Mowen, and they moved to Raleigh, NC, in 1984. The happy couple celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary on May 28, 2023. Shane was well known as being conscientious and hardworking. He worked at Nortel Networks and Ericsson, retiring in December 2017. Shane recognized the value of computers early in their existence. He was able to explain anything with his computer, charts, and graphs. His work was trustworthy and valuable to his companies.
His interests included riding his Harley, leather working, outdoor projects, herb gardening, dog training, lifelong learning, and spending quality time with his wife and dogs.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Robert and Helen Eller; maternal grandparents, Jay and Eleanor Walker; Allan Powell; in-laws, Charles and Olive Mowen; dogs Rushka, Chana and Hilda.
He is survived by his wife; father, mother, sisters, Jane L. Mease and Daphne A. Hunt; brother-in-law, Charles E. Mowen, Jr.; sister-in-law, Pamela Hoenich (Benjamin); 6 nieces, 2 nephews and his beloved rescue dogs, Alix and Greta.
Memorial services will be held in Hagerstown, Maryland, at a later date.
