He was born July 25, 1930 in Olin, a son of Samuel Moore and Eva and Richard Smothers. He married Mary Elizabeth Hunter on October 14, 1950.
Surviving are his wife, Mary Elizabeth Hunter Moore of Cary; two daughters, Susan M. (Glenn) Blackley of Cary, Cynthia M. Parrish of Angier; one son, David Ray (Sara) Moore of Hickory; special grandchildren, Jarad Blackley, Jonathan Blackley, Hunter Moore, Sallie Moore, Adam Moore, Emily Moore, Mary Parrish, and Samuel Parrish; great grandchildren, Jaden, Bishop, and Elijah.
He is preceded in death by one brother, two sisters, and son, Wayne H. Moore.
Ray graduated from Mineral Springs High School in Winston-Salem and was a graduate of NC State College. His Professional work started with Piedmont Airlines as it was taking off. He then went to work for Mechanical Contractors in Charlotte. He came to Cary in 1960 and established Mechanical Associates where he was President until the mid-1990’s. He then went to work for Knott-Benson-Spring in Durham until retirement because of health.
He was an active member of First Baptist Church in Cary for 54 years. He was a longtime member of the Cary Rotary Club where he was a Paul Harris Fellow. He was President of NCAPHCC. He was appointed by the Governor and served several terms as Chairman of the NC State Building Code Council.
Ray cherished his family. He enjoyed Golf, NC State, Sports and Emceeing Business and Church functions.
A memorial service will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, December 17, 2014 at First Baptist Church in Cary. Reception will immediately follow the service. A private graveside service will be at Montlawn Memorial Park in Raleigh.
