Ronald "Ron" Earl Stogner went to his heavenly home at age 61 in the early hours of the morning on March 15, 2023. Ron passed away following sudden and unexpected complications while recovering from major heart surgery in the comfort of his home in Cary, NC.
Ron was born along with his identical twin brother Don in Alabama to Shelda Maxine and Bobby Grey Stogner on December 11, 1961. Shelda passed away shortly after the birth of her twin sons and Ron's beloved mother Jo Macon Stogner came into their lives not long after and raised the twins along with their sister Debbie in Lumberton, NC.
Ron met the love of his life Carol Arlene Stogner at a co-ed Bible study while they both attended NC State University in 1984. Ron and Carol were married on June 29, 1985 and together welcomed four children, Catherine, Nicholas, Caroline, and Allison. He was a devoted and beloved Grandpa to three beautiful granddaughters Eliza and Hazel Holley, and Kennedy Stogner. Ron dearly loved his family. Ron would take every opportunity to tell others how proud he was of his children and about the joy of watching his grandchildren play, learn and grow.
Ron was a diligent and hardworking provider for his family, he worked for SAS Institute for over 30 years as a software engineer, making many close friends along the way. He spoke often about his deep admiration for those with whom he worked and the talent surrounding him at his workplace.
Ron adored the challenge of learning and mastering many various sports throughout his life. There are eras of Ron's life marked with each hobby. The Lumberton High School baseball team in his teen years, then basketball in college and baseball & softball in his young married years. Tennis and the pistol and rifle club entered his life in recent years and he dove in with a passion. He would light up at the opportunity to talk about his friends and their accomplishments on the courts and at target practice. Ron was dependable and committed in every area of his life.
Ron chose joy; he loved to laugh and see the humorous side of things. He knew Jesus Christ as his personal Savior, and prayed for his friends and family daily. He shared this verse with his family just a few months before his passing: "Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!" (2 Corinthians 5:17). Ron is with Jesus: a new creation, healthy, joyful, and whole. His heart is completely healed and his legacy of spreading joy and laughter remains with those who remember him and loved him so well.
A memorial service for Ron will be held Saturday, March 25, 2023 from 1:00 PM at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, 200 Southeast Maynard Road, Cary, NC 27511. The family will greet guests following the service.
