He is survived by his beloved wife Mary Ann Rounds; his children, Jaime (Jeff) Thompson, Carly Rounds (Randy Chugh); and his grandchildren, Ryan Robert Thompson, Kevin Adam Thompson, Mallory Ann Chugh, and Julian Gopal Chugh.
Bob was born on July 7, 1947 in Albany, New York, the fifth of seven children of Wilbur Lloyd and Adele Viola Rounds. After graduating from Burnt Hills-Ballston Spa High School, he went on to play football and study physical education at Ithaca College. He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in 1969 and began an illustrious career in computer technology culminating as the CIO of the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency until his retirement.
Bob married his college sweetheart Mary Ann Salamankas in 1970 and they remained happily together for 51 years until his passing. Bob was a remarkable man, devoted father, dedicated to his family, quick with a pun, and a beloved “Poppy.” He was adored by his grandchildren and spent countless hours teaching them about the world. He was an amateur musician, astronomer, car enthusiast, and an artistic perfectionist in all his endeavors. He loved to travel with his wife Mary Ann having returned from a trip to Australia and New Zealand just prior to covid lockdowns and traveling from room to room in their house during the pandemic. Bob had recently completed a comprehensive genealogy of his family, a treasure that will be passed on for generations.
Bob was a firm believer that anyone who fought for this country should have a safe home to live in. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Homes for our Troops. https://www.hfotusa.org/
