Grandchildren: James (Angelou) Nagy, Brandon (Hannah) Nagy, Savannah Dillman, Nico (previously Alyssa) Dillman, Lillia (Johnathan) Reid, Emily Tidwell, Drew Tidwell, and Katelyn Tidwell. He was looking forward to becoming a great-grandfather this summer.
Richard was born in Franklin, TN, on December 18, 1938. A veteran, he served in the Navy for four years, rising to the rank of ET and serving on the U.S.S. Cacapon. After his service, he went on to IBM, where he worked for more than 30 years.
He was a devout Christian and an active member of and treasurer for Holly Springs Church of Christ. He’d previously spent many years as a member, elder, and treasurer for Walnut Street Church of Christ.
Outside of church, Richard was an avid gardener, and for much his life, he was passionate about woodworking. You could also find him at bluegrass festivals, or fishing with his best friend, Rick Billingsley.
His friends and family would say he was a generous person who cared deeply about his loved ones and his service to the Lord. He will be greatly missed.
Family will receive friends on Saturday, January 20, 2024, from 1:00 pm–2:30 pm at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home in Cary. A Celebration of Life Service will begin at 3:00 pm in the funeral home chapel, with Rick Billingsley officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society—in honor of Michele Nagy—or to Transitions Lifecare in Raleigh.
