She was born September 25, 1930 in Portsmouth, VA a daughter of William Henry and Bessie Gibson Hayes.
She is preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Mary Ann.
Surviving are he sons, Carl Peterson of Raleigh, and Steve Peterson (wife, Debbie) from San Bernardino, CA; four grandchildren, Daniel, Jennifer, Stephanie, and John all of CA; and her brother, William Henry Hayes (wife, Martha) of Gloucester Co., VA.
She is a retired schoolteacher form Virginia Beach, VA and has been living in North Carolina since 1996.
Rena was a wonderful person who enjoyed reading, playing bridge, cribbage, and was an avid golfer. She enjoyed watching any sport and had a deep Faith in God as she is Catholic. She was a tremendous Mother, Educator, and most of all a true friend. Her smile and cheerful attitude was infectious!
