Pauline Miltenberger Houck MacDonald, 94, formerly of Easton, PA, passed peacefully on January 6, 2011 in Cary, NC. She had lived in Cary with her daughter, Diane Boyer and Diane’s husband Tom, for the past 10 years.
Pauline was born in Bethlehem, PA September 27, 1916. She was the daughter of the late Charles H. and Flora (Spengler) Miltenberger. A graduate of Northampton High School (Class of 1933) she was employed by the Northampton County Court House and the American Red Cross. She was a committed member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church and reached out to her community through many church sponsored programs. She volunteered tirelessly at Gracedale Nursing Home and served on numerous boards. She was the first woman to serve on the Board of Good Shepherd Rehabilitation Center in Allentown, PA.
Pauline, fondly known as “Nanny” by her grandchildren and great grandchildren, exemplified a Christian life through her active lifestyle, involvement in her community and church, and love of family. She was a lady of quiet reserve and she was a “doer”. Her enduring faith and the strength of her convictions guided her throughout her life and death.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, Harry Houck and Fred MacDonald.
She is lovingly remembered by her sister, Elizabeth Reimer (Carl) of Allentown, PA, her daughter, Diane Boyer and husband, Tom of Cary, NC; step-son Scott MacDonald and his son Ian MacDonald; grandchildren, Jackey Bieber and husband Joel of Richmond, VA, Susan Rodriguez Larrain Boyer and husband Gonzalo of Lima, Peru, Bill Boyer and wife Holly of Wrightsville Beach, NC and Robert Boyer and wife Tara of Holden Beach, NC; great-grandchildren, Andrew Boyer, Lily Boyer, Ella Boyer, and Gonzalo Rodriguez Larrain Boyer; nieces and nephews, Cindy Hines, Donna Robinson, Jeff Reimer, Michael Zito, and Donna Rowlands.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 15, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church (2115 Washington Blvd in Easton, PA).
