He was born March 04, 1932 in Indianapolis, IN to the late Ora Sherman Downs and Geraldine Cook Downs.
Paul proudly served in the Naval Reserves. He worked for over 30 years in the American Steel industry after having studied business at Northwestern and Indiana University. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed coaching his children in their varied athletic teams.
He married his second wife, Joan Beal Downs, and moved to NC where he enjoyed his retirement.
He is survived by his seven children: Paul Downs Jr of Kamiah ID, Stacy Inch of Cary NC, Paige Fulsang of Naperville IL, Cort Downs of Aurora IL, Brooks Downs of Cary NC, Shannon Downs of Cary NC and Robert Downs of Greenville SC. He also has 15 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Janet Downs, brothers Jack and Orry, and sister Maryjane.
A celebration of Paul’s life will be held at 1:00pm on Thursday, October 11, 2018 at Brown Wynne Funeral Home, 200 Southeast Maynard Road, Cary NC.
