Myra was born in Daisy, TN to Virgil and Edith Douglas. She attended Rhea County High School and cherished her Tennessee roots. She was a woman of deep faith and a gifted gardener who is remembered for her many roses and other flowers, as well as vegetables, fruits, and herbs.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill Martin; parents Virgil and Edith Douglas; three sisters: Barbara Morgan, Mary Thompson, and Alma Wilkey.
Myra always said that she knew from a very early age that her calling in life was to be a mother. She raised her family in Winston-Salem, NC, and later moved to Raleigh. She is survived by a son, Kent Blackburn; three daughters: Darla Blackburn, Lisa (Tim) Varhola, Karen Hoeve, and Myra Belle Alexandre. She is also survived by her sister, Doris Douglas (Kenny Clark), seven grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren, all of whom brought immense joy and love into her life. She will also be missed by her loving nieces and nephews.
