Mike received a Bachelor's Degree, Masters Degree, and PhD from Pennsylvania State University. He started working at North Carolina State University in 1982 as an associate professor and extension specialist. Over his 30 years at North Carolina State University Mike authored numerous publications, taught over 500 classes about on-site wastewater treatment systems to over 13,000 people. He created the first hands on on-site wastewater treatment training center, which has since been modeled by other states and countries around the world. His whole career he was passionate about helping others to develop their land. He helped bring about the first approval for an onsite wastewater pretreatment system to help develop previously undevelopable land. He also loved helping others to develop the best version of themselves.
He is survived by his adoring wife Tricia Angoli, daughter Kim and her husband Armin, daughter Patty and her husband Robert, and son Tom and his wife Namra. He is survived by the three granddaughters he adored, Alexis, Abigail, and Nugget and his three fur babies, Bella, Loki, and Daisy.
