Mason Robert Cleveland passed away June 5, 2022, at the age of 81, following a long illness. He was born in Picher, Oklahoma on November 26, 1940 and lived in several places throughout his life, including Bend, OR, Phoenix, AZ, Prescott AZ, and most recently Cary, NC.
Mason was a retired carpenter who single-handedly built two beautiful homes for his beloved wife, Shirley Cleveland. He was always willing to offer a hand, or his carpentry expertise to anyone who needed it. He had a passion for performing country music and spent a decade leading weekly jam sessions in Prescott, AZ with his many friends. He was even part of a small band, called the Old Time Fiddlers, who often performed at the American Legion.
Mason was an Army Veteran and had a deep love for God, his family, and his country. He had an intense love for animals, especially his many dogs over the years. He loved to tell stories and ponder the mysteries of life with anyone who would listen. His sense of humor and quick wit would lighten up the room, even during his own illnesses.
Mason is survived by his adored wife, Shirley Cleveland, daughters Roxanna Blasko, Holly Deal (Shawn), son Robert Cleveland (Casandra), stepsons Mike Lapre and Brian Butler, stepdaughters Debbie Rozell (Lee) and Michelle Milburn (Daniel), Sister Carolyn Rose Ellertson, plus many grandchildren, several great grandchildren,, nieces, a nephew, as well as his little dog, Milo. He was preceded in death by sisters, Mary JoAnn Corrales and Sara Kathleen Ropp, and stepson, Don Lapre.
Graveside services will be held on Sunday, at Wake Memorial Park at 7002 Green Hope Rd in Cary, at 10am June 12th. Feel free to come as you are, as Mason would not want anyone feeling like they need to wear a suit on a hot summer day. Reception will follow at 7700 Penny Rd, Raleigh.
