After a long and courageous battle with cancer, Mark Warren “Hammer” Nixon, surrounded by his friends, passed away on July 15, 2013 in Raleigh, North Carolina. Mark was born on September 19, 1960 in Butte, Montana. He is predeceased by his parents Richard and Arlene Nixon, one sister Susan Nixon and one brother Richard Wayne Nixon. He is survived by one niece, Sandra Moore and two nephews, Geoffery Nixon and Adam Nixon.
Mark served the US Army and moved to Portland, Maine after he was discharged. He lived in Maine over 20 years, made many friends and returned to visit as often as he could. He loved music, was an avid golfer, Patriots, Red Sox and Celtics fan.
Mark relocated to Raleigh in 2002 and spent the last 11 years working for TECKELEC. His job allowed him to travel and visit many countries all over the world. He made friends where ever he was and as he always said; “everybody loves the Hammer”. He will be sadly missed but not forgotten by those people whose lives he touched.
The “Hammer” leaves his wonderful caretaker, Michele Lee and his many other friends from his North Carolina home. He also leaves behind his ‘adopted family”, Bob and Betsy Manter and Tim Scanlin of Portland, Maine. He will be sadly missed by all his Portland buds at Ernie’s Pool and Darts and especially the Riverside Golf Course, his home away from home.
Funeral services will be held Friday, July 19, 2013 at the Brown-Wynne Funeral Home in Cary, NC. Per his wishes Mark will be buried in the Manter Family plot in Northern Maine. A memorial service in Maine will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers please make donations in his name to the American Cancer Society.
