Marjorie Palm Roos, 88, died January 27, 2023. She was born in Pittsburgh, PA on March 15, 1934, on Palm Sunday to James and Rosina Rupert, who were both born in Gizzeria, Italy. She grew up in Pittsburgh, the source of her lifelong love of the Pittsburgh Steelers, and graduated from Avalon High School. During this time, she met the love of her life, Alan Roos. As a young adult, she began her first job working in downtown Pittsburgh. In 1955 she and Al were married and started their family with children, Alan, Andy and Sue being born in Pittsburgh. The family moved to Endwell, NY in 1961 for Al’s new job at IBM where their son, John, was born.
In 1964, the family moved to Saugerties, NY where she was active in her church, her community and raising her family. In 1976 the family’s final move was to Cary, NC where she worked at Henry Adams Elementary as a teacher assistant, Occidental Life in Raleigh and SAS Institute in Cary.
However, her true occupation was Mom, Grandmother (Mama) and Great Grandmother (Grandma Margie) in addition to hostess for the many friends and family for whom she loved to cook, bake, and entertain. Through the years, Marge and Al’s home was always a center of activity for gatherings and celebrations, especially July 4th and Christmas night. Her greatest loves were her husband of 53 years and raising her four children. She attended countless games and performances of her children and then grandchildren and loved to make cookies with them during the holidays. Holding her great-grandchildren brought her much joy.
Marge made lifelong friends in every community in which she lived and kept in touch with them right until her death. She and Al loved to travel with countless trips over the years, especially when they lived in Nice, France on assignment with IBM. She was a big fan of making lists, and she would often say, “I have a list for the lists.”
Marjorie is survived by her sons, Alan Roos, Jr. of Cape Cod, and John Roos and wife, Tracey of Cary; daughter, Sue Tracey and husband, Steve of Apex; 6 grandchildren, Nick (Sarah) Roos, Zack (Kristen) Roos, and Carly (Earl) Laing, and Emily, Michael (fiancé Gabrielle Strain), and David Tracey; 9 great- grandchildren; Nolan, Vivian, and Josephine Roos, Henry and Murphy Roos, and Watson, Hayes, Knox, and Sloane Laing and brother, Anthony Rupert (Suzanne), sister-in-law Mary Roos Pepmeyer and many loving nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her son, Andrew Roos, husband, Alan J. Roos, Sr., and brother, James Rupert.
