Margaret Joan Ward

Margaret Joan Ward (Joan) of Cary, NC passed away February 3, 2018 at the age of 88. Joan was a beloved wife, mother, and grandmother and accomplished amateur artist. She was born and raised in Toronto, Ontario, Canada where she met and married her husband, Donald Ward. They were married for 62 years and lived in Hialeah, Florida before moving to Cary. They retired and lived for several years at Smith Mountain Lake, Virginia, and eventually returned to Cary, also enjoying several winters in Haines City, Florida. In addition to painting, she loved to travel, bake, and read, especially British mysteries.

Joan is predeceased by her mother Kathleen Goddard Elsom, father Oliver Elsom, and sisters Bess Elsom Jacobs and Kay Elsom McQueen. She is survived by her husband Donald S. Ward, daughter Cheryl Ward, son and daughter-in-law Alan and Lisa Ward, and granddaughter Karen Ward.

A memorial service for Joan will be held at the Cary Presbyterian Church in late March. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Dorcas Ministries.
