Lynda Ann Mears (Small) Mowery, born March 14, 1943, went to be with the Lord on April 19, 2025. She is survived by her husband, Kay Mowery (Cary, NC); daughter, Heather Small Maloney and son in law, Michael D Maloney, Jr. (Durham, NC); grandsons, Michael D Maloney III and Eric D Maloney (Wilmington, NC); brother, Tommy Mears and sister in law, Carol Mears (Rocky Mount, NC); and niece, Shannon Mears (Myrtle Beach, SC). Lynda is preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Etta Mears; and son, John "Jay" C. Small, Jr.
Lynda was born and raised in Rocky Mount, NC. She left Rocky Mount when she attended Peace College. While attending Peace, through a friend, she met John C. Small, and they were married in 1963. John and Lynda had two children, Heather and Jay. They moved to Greenville, SC in the late 70's, where Lynda stayed after she and John divorced.
While living in Greenville, Lynda started working at Casual Corner Clothing store. In 1987, she moved to Cary, NC, and continued working for Casual Corner. In working at Casual Corners, Lynda was able to advance her career in visual design. With this advancement she was asked to design the glass display cases in several different malls including, Cary Towne Center (Cary, NC), Triangle Towne Center (Raleigh, NC), Hanes Mall (Winston-Salem, NC), Columbia Mall (Columbia, SC), and Citadel Mall (Charleston, SC). She made so many friends along the way who became apart of her family.
Lynda loved to play tennis and bridge, and made so many dear friends doing what she loved. In her years of playing bridge, she became a Silver Life Master. She was always up to traveling and had been to over 60 countries, with many more that she wanted to visit. Lynda also really enjoyed being Nana to her two beloved grandsons.
In 2009, Lynda added a new member to her family when she married Kay Mowery. Kay and Lynda loved to travel, whether it were a cruise or on a planned road scholar tour, which she would so solo sometimes. They both loved playing bridge in all of their bridge clubs together. Lynda and Kay started attending Cary Presbyterian Church of Cary, NC, and this is where she began volunteering at Kitchen Kats. Lynda never met a stranger and would always brighten up a room.
A celebration of life for Lynda will be held Tuesday, April 29, 2025 from 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, 200 Southeast Maynard Road, Cary, NC 27511, followed by a reception from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers. please donate to Kitchen Kats at Cary Presbyterian Church, checks can be written to the church with Kitchen Kats in the memo. Also, donations to your favorite animal rescue as Lynda adored her animals.
