Kevin was born in Iowa and moved to Raleigh at age six. He graduated from Athens Drive High School in 1987 and was very active in the marching band. He then went on to graduate from NCSU in 1992 with a degree in computer science.
He worked for IBM for 20 years as a computer software engineer. He then made a move to SAS a year ago and enjoyed a very rewarding work experience there. Kevin had been married to his wife, Kara, for 21 years and has two children, Brittany and Brandon. His family has been members of Raleigh First Assembly of God church for 22 years. He immediately became involved in church ministry and served as a Kinderchurch teacher, Sunday School Superintendent and also was a member of the church’s emergency response team.
Kevin’s service with the Royal Rangers was extremely rewarding to him as well. He served as a commander, assistant outpost coordinator and was a proud member of the Frontiersman Camping Fellowship. He really loved the great outdoors and took his kayak to the ocean or a nearby lake as often as he could. He was a devoted husband, father and friend and will be missed very much.
He is survived by his parents, Jim and Judy Dunphy of Raleigh, NC; his wife, Kara, daughter, Brittany and son, Brandon of Cary, NC; brother, Brian (and Samantha) of Silver Springs, MD; brother, Cory (and Allison) and family of Four Oaks, NC as well as extended family from Germany to the west coast.
A service to celebrate his life will be at 12noon on Tuesday, June 7th 2016 at Raleigh First Assembly of God Church (2660 Yonkers Rd., Raleigh, NC 27604). The family will receive relatives and friends prior to the service from 10am until 12noon. Please remember his family in your prayers. Burial will be in Montlawn Memorial Park in Raleigh.
