Mine and Andrea's hearts are broken for you. Katie was a beautiful girl inside and out. When we moved to Raleigh in 2003, Andrea needed a friend. We prayed and ask God to send Andrea a special friend. Andrea then met Katie at West Cary Middle School. God had sent Katie to Andrea as that special friend, and she was every bit of that.  We loved her and will never forget her.

My heart goes out to Katie's family.  I had the privilege of working with her on several feral cat projects through our rescue group and was always struck by her inquisitive nature, sweet spirit and quiet determination.  She was a friend to cats, great and small.  She will be deeply missed.

We are so saddened to hear of the passing of your beautiful angel.  Our thoughts, prayers are with you and your family during this difficult time in your lives.  May all the prayers give you strength to get through the coming days.

When my son entered Cary High in Ninth Grade, he came from Dillard Drive Middle and didn't know many people at Cary. It was Katie that would come and sit with him at lunch. She seemed to reach out to everyone. 

I met her twice, once when the "group" went to the movies. She was "hung on Micheal's hip" and it was clear that the two of them had a very special relationship. It brought tears to my eyes at that moment because it was sweet and innocent. 

The next time, and sadly the last time I saw Katie, was at the beginning of this year at the school opening. She and a couple friends came racing up to my son, Alex and hugged him. They were full of energy and so so beautiful. 

It was like a whirl of love, light, boots and fire.

Katie brought a fire to her circle that clearly lives in them now. The tribute that they gave to her last night in Cary, showed her strengths; love, honesty, sincerity and a true unbeguiled heart.

What a gift Katie is to them, what a sacrifice that her parents brought her in to the world, cherished her, and allowed her to be. 

Perhaps such lights are fated to burn but short and fierce so that we get our heart fires renewed. 

In her wake, may we be loving, take care of our world and each other like Katie did.

God be with you Tina, Roy and all the family, thank you.

We will always remember Katie as a beautiful girl with a wonderful sense of humor.  Tina, Katie, and Blizzard were our "bus stop buddies" during the Morrisville Elem. school years and a contributing part of our Cary H.S. community.  Our hearts are broken for the loss of Katie and all of the ways in which she would have continued to make the world a better place.  Katie's legacy is a reminder for us to fully live each moment, that all living things are precious, to always have a sense of humor, to love your neighbor, and that every day is a heavenly gift. When my wife and I saw the sad news about your daughter, our hearts went out to you and our eyes filled with tears.  We were happy, though, to read of Katie's love for the Carolina Tiger Sanctuary. Roy, I never got to know your daughter very well but you and her Mom obviously raised a wonderful young lady. Having to deal with a chronically ill child ourselves, the only thing worse I can imagine is to have such a sudden and unexpected loss as your family has experienced. Our sincere sympathies and blessings to you and your family as you travel this most difficult of all journeys.

Watching Katie and Nick grow up from across the street has been a true blessing these past 15 years ( and a source of much humor).  There wasn't a time we saw Katie that she did not make us chuckle with her sense of humor or grin. Our pets absolutely adored her, and she was like a "Cat Whisperer."  Katie truly did make her mother and brother proud and will be dearly missed by all who had the privilege to know her.

I was so deeply saddened to hear about the passing of Katie.  I was Katie's 5th grade teacher at Morrisville, and what I remember most about her was her sincere love for animals.  She had such a loving heart.  May her family and friends find comfort in the loving memories of her.

Tina: Eleanor, Brad and I were devastated this morning to learn of your loss. I'll never forget meeting that imaginative 1st grader who knew more facts about Ancient Egypt than most college students. She had a big heart for animals and a wry outlook on life even then, so I can well imagine she turned into the beautiful, engaging, selfless young woman your friends and family are describing. I pray that faith and the support of all of these many people who loved Katie can sustain you through the current shock and crisis and the difficult months and years ahead. I remember Katie as a spirited but shy and sweet 10 year old, and regret that I did not have the opportunity to know the young woman who earned an academic scholarship to Meredith College and devoted herself to the cats she so dearly loved.  She was a great kid and I'm glad to have known her, and you, for a time.  Take good care.

Hey i just wana say even though i met her freshman year she was one of the nicest girls that i had ever met.  she got me through some tough times with kids at school and i used to date her. katie i will miss you severely and i hope your parents, family, and friends make it through.

Katie has always had my back during all of our adventures at the Carolina Tiger Rescue, even in the messiest of situations she always made everyone around her laugh with the wittiest of comments. She will be missed a lot not only by her fellow environmentalist but by everyone who ever came into contact with her. I'll never forget all the time we spent together picking up trash, making recycled trees, and playing with tigers.

I knew Katie from Operation Catnip. She was a wonderful, compassionate, beautiful girl who had the sharpest of minds. Her love for animals was infectious, as was her smile. Anytime I handed an Operation Catnip cat off to Katie, I knew he/she was in great hands. Katie would have been a fantastic vet. In her all too brief time here, she made such an enormous impact on so many people (and animals). I am so deeply sorry for your loss of such an amazing girl. Your family and Katie's friends are in my thoughts and prayers.

Dear Roy:  I was so very saddened to hear about the unfortunate loss of your wonderful daughter, and friend. Please be reminded that the Lord is always in control and even in what we refer to as death, He referred to many times as merely falling "asleep."  Just as Lazarus, the One who came to save the lost will return, and raise Katie up to enjoy a life that will be much better than what we endure, day-to-day. We will never forget the beautiful, friendly, easy going little girl with whom we shared so many fun and special times during those Morrisville Elementary School days.  The sleepovers, the birthday parties, the mornings and afternoons at the bus stop (always with Blizzard), Girl Scouts, soccer, playing by the creek, roasting marshmallows, catching fireflies, lemonade stands, water balloon fights, bike rides, the puppet shows and plays, movie nights, French braids, all the things that little girls do together.  Katie was a special part of our lives and we are grateful for the simple joy she brought to us.  She grew up to be a phenomenal young woman.  We feel her loss deeply.  And we pray for comfort for all who will miss her, especially her mother, our friend Tina.  We are here for you Tina.  May God hold you in the palm of his hand. Katie, our sweet Katie.  My heart is broken.  My son, Russell's best friend and confidant from Morrisville Elementary and beyond.  She had his back, and he had her's all of the time.  That beautiful smile; her sense of style; and her curiotsity of the unknown and fantasy was so intriguing to everyone who knew her. I have prayed all weekend that this was not my Katie!  I have such fond memories of Katie in my fourth grade class.  She had that dry sense of humor and a smile that she reserved for truly special moments.  I have thought of her often since that year and was so glad to hear how wonderful she was doing when I ran into her and/or Tina.  My heart is broken at her passing.
