Joyce Cobots Newbegin

Joyce was born on July 19th, 1932, in Chester, PA, to the late Dr. Joseph and Mrs. Irene Cobots. She graduated from Swarthmore High School in 1950. While attending the University of Pennsylvania as an English Major, she met her husband of 23 years, CDR. Robert G. Newbegin IV from Brooklyn, NY. A longtime resident of Norfolk, VA, Mrs. Newbegin was an exceptional freelance artist and writer. She graduated with honors from Old Dominion University in 1978 with a degree in Fine Arts. Joyce traveled extensively through her lifetime, expressing a special affinity for Canada. Her love of both Cape May and Norfolk provided many fond memories during the time that she was unable to travel.

Joyce is survived by her sister, Barbara Cabott; children, Robert Goodchild Newbegin V, Joseph C. Newbegin (Suzanne), Bonnie Brooks (Todd), and Lynn Newbegin; grandchildren, Erin Breakey (Beaux), Devon Newbegin, Joey Newbegin, Amanda Babcock, Katherine Babcock, Ashley Brooks, Anthony Brooks; and great grandchildren, Jaedyn Newbegin and Ryleigh Hicks.

A funeral mass will be held on Monday, August 1st, 2016, at 11:00 am, at St. Andrew’s Catholic Church in Apex, NC. Visitation will take place one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at Raleigh Memorial Park in Raleigh, NC.
