John “Jack” Richard Chabot was born on January 17, 1930 in Pasadena, California to Elmer Charles and Mary Sophia Chabot. He died peacefully at home on October 2, 2016 in Cary, N.C. at the age of 86. He leaves behind his beloved wife of 61 years, Marilyn Ann Chabot. His three children, Mark Chabot of Senoia, Ga., Lisa Schoonmaker of Accord, N.Y., and Leslie Chabot of Sanford, N.C also survive him. He was very proud of his three grandsons, Darryl Schoonmaker of Accord N.Y., Ryan Schoonmaker of Tillson, N.Y., and Daniel Chabot of Senoia, Ga. His sister MaryEllen Chabot Ryan of Pasadena, California preceded Jack in death.
Jack served as an officer in the U.S. Army for five years attaining the rank of Lieutenant. He served in South Korea and Japan. Jack earned a bachelors of arts in geology from the University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA) and was senior systems programming analyst for Douglas Aircraft and IBM.
Jack was an avid reader and writer and long time member of the Crime Writers Club in Raleigh, N.C. He published numerous award winning short stories and novels. He was a member of Mensa and volunteered his time to the Rex Wellness Center and the Special Olympics. Friends and family knew him as a lover of good music and challenging crossword puzzles. Jack had the unique ability to combine a sharp wit and a humble nature.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, October 5th at Brown-Wynne Funeral Homes, 200 Southeast Maynard Road, Cary, North Carolina.
