John was born in Jersey City, NJ to John and Ellen Alfieri on December 6, 1934. He is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Carole (nee Finnigan). He was predeceased by two sisters, Dorothy (Norman Hillyer) and Ellen (Gene Ough); and is survived by sister Teresa (Ron Larsson).
After graduating from Holy Family High School, Union City, NJ where he met the love of his life, Carole Finnigan, he went to work for Western Electric Co., then joined the US Army where he served with the 6th Infantry Regimental Honor Guard in Berlin, Germany.
Upon discharge from the Army, he and Carole were married in Hoboken, NJ on September 7, 1957 and went on to have three sons, John (Diane), Tom (Donna) and Bob (Debbie); who in turn were to have seven more Alfieris: Michael, Lauren, Jack, Cailyn, Carolyn, Grace and Anna. He was the proud great-grandfather to Amelia and Henry MacBain.
John first worked with computers in 1959 with the Flight Simulation Division of Curtiss Wright as an Electronic Technician and later as an Engineer with the semiconductor divisions of RCA and General Instrument Corporation, and as a Sales Engineer and Regional Sales Manager with Fairchild Semiconductor. In 1973 he co-founded a computer services company specializing in using computers for the design of integrated circuits and printed circuit boards and remained the president for 20 years. He always kept current with the changing technology of the electronics and computer industries and was proud of the fact that he knew how those “chips” really worked.
After spending several years traveling the United States in their motorhome, John and Carole moved to Pinehurst and became active parishioners in Sacred Heart Church. John served as Adoration Coordinator, Chaired the Finance Council, and provided computer support to the staff. He was a Third-Degree member of the Knights of Columbus and served for many years as Financial Secretary.
John spent the last 2 years of his life in Cary, NC to be closer to family.
