Jim was born on September 26, 1956, in Moulton, Alabama to the late James (Ted) and Sarah (Estelle) White. He moved to Cary, NC in 1960 when his father relocated with Chemstrand to RTP, along with a number of other North Alabama families. He attended Cary public schools until graduation from Cary High School in 1975.
As an active member of First Baptist Church, Cary in the singles group and choir, he met Elizabeth. They married in 1987 and Jim moved to Michigan where Elizabeth was working. He also moved his church membership to Memorial Baptist Church, Sterling Heights, MI and joined the choir. Jim attended Lawrence Technological University and completed his BS in Business Management at UNC-G in 1991 after relocating to Clemmons, NC. Jim and Elizabeth moved back to Cary in 1993 and joined Westwood Baptist Church.
Jim’s care for people showed in his work in customer service and human resources, working for a variety of companies: Mechanical Associates, Burger King, Belk, Ramada Inn, Phillips 66, Circle K, and Lowe’s.
Jim served as a choir member, deacon, went on mission trips, and volunteered for church work projects, RA raking, built ramps, moved furniture, and set up for events. He especially enjoyed working with youth and children. After retirement, Jim focused on volunteering with Westwood’s youth group as a Sunday School teacher and youth volunteer.
Jim and Elizabeth were married for 37 years and had 2 sons. In addition to his wife, Elizabeth, Jim is survived by his sons: Eli and William White of Cary; his siblings: Vicky Thompson of Cary and Bill White (Ann) of Pleasant Garden; niece Tonia Hines of Wilmington and nephew David Venable (Jennifer) of Raleigh; great-niece Adeline Hines of Wilmington, great-nephew Ashton Hines of Charleston, SC, and great-niece Estelle Venable and great-nephew Will Venable of Raleigh.
Jim had a tender heart and always showed his care for everyone. Around Cary, it was hard to go anywhere without running into someone he knew and catching up on the latest news, especially at Ashworth Drugs and Tart’s Barber Shop. He will be sorely missed.
