A memorial service will be held 3 p.m. Sunday, August 29, 2010 at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, 200 S.E. Maynard Road in Cary, NC. His sister and son-in-law will officiate.
Mr. Thompson was born January 12, 1936, in Otwell, AR, to Harley and Hetty Thompson. He spent his childhood in Bessemer, AL and St. Louis, MO. He graduated from high school and served in the United States Navy. He married Jeannie Marie Anderson in 1958. Mr. Thompson had a long career of achievement as an engineer and consultant with IBM where he helped develop the first color computer monitor. He moved his family to Cary, NC in 1968, raising two daughters. Mr. Thompson retired from IBM after 30 years of service in 1988.
Mr. Thompson is remembered for his devotion to family, his hard work and fair-mindedness, and his quiet generosity to many.
Mr. Thompson is survived by his wife, Jeannie Thompson; his stepfather, Roy Coker; sister, Alma Jean Coker; his daughters, Sharron Thompson and Robin Thompson Duehring; his brother-in-law, Frankie Anderson; and seven grandchildren, Arian, Danielle, James, Sabrina, Patrick, Adam, and Nicole.
