Payton was born October 15, 1939 in Warren County. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lillie and Herbert King and brothers Herbert King, Lloyd King and William King.
He married his high school sweetheart, Joyce Ayscue King on July 6, 1963. He loved his two sons, Bradley Payton King (Deanna) and Christopher Stacey King (Andrea) and his three granddaughters, Chandler, Bailey and Ellie. He is also survived by brother, Tommy King and several nieces and nephews.
He was employed by Home Beneficial Life Insurance Company for 28 years before retiring. He was proud to serve Our Country and was in the National Guard for 6 years.
He was a member and loved Ephesus Baptist Church. He served as Chairman of Personnel Committee as well as Chairman of the Usher Committee. Payton loved people and loved to talk to them about God. He was always there to talk to you.
Visitation will be Tuesday, March 13, 2018 from 12:00-1:00 with the funeral service to follow at Ephesus Baptist Church, 6767 Hillsborough Street in Raleigh. Burial will also be at Ephesus Baptist Church, 6767 Hillsborough Street, Raleigh. Flowers appreciated or donations may be made to Ephesus Baptist Church.
