Irving “Irv” Martin Silberberg, 94, of Apex, NC passed away on Wednesday, March 16, 2022 at Transitions LifeCare after a brief hospital stay. He was born on April 21, 1927 in Paterson, NJ to the late Jacob Silberberg and Eva Silberberg. Irv grew up in Brighton Beach, NY and spent his later years living in Long Island, NY before moving to North Carolina.
Irv was a brilliant man, graduating with Phi Beta Kappa honors and a Master of Arts degree in the School of Education from New York University. He prided himself on his successful career as an educator for New York Public Schools in various roles for many years. Irv finished his career in education as Assistant Principal at Hillcrest High School in Queens, NY before transitioning to a long-term career as an insurance broker.
In his free time, Irv enjoyed storytelling, reading, and staying up to date on current events. He cared very deeply about issues in the world and felt strongly that his attempts to make even the smallest of change (letters to the editor at the News & Observer, emails to Senators, etc.) would make a difference. Outside of his philanthropic efforts, he also loved to play poker and followed nearly all sports from baseball, to basketball, to football and more. Irv was always a dedicated Mets fan and never missed a game.
Family meant everything to Irv. He treasured spending birthdays, holidays, and quality time with his family and loved ones. Some of his favorite get-togethers included weekly visits to his apartment for storytelling as well as monthly dinners at the Pub. Irv enjoyed simply being with his family and being able to share in life’s exciting moments, times of sorrow and everything in between. He loved to provide advice and pearls of wisdom to help guide his loved ones when needed. Irv provided the same generosity even to acquaintances, although he never met a stranger and will be remembered for his loving, giving, and thoughtful ways.
Irv is preceded in death by his wife, Dolores Silberberg; and daughter, Karen Levy; brother, Joe Silberberg and his wife Ann; and sister, Judith Warner. He is survived by his daughter, Amy Demsko and her husband, Mitchell; son, Brian Silberberg and his wife Jani; son-in-law Richard Levy and his wife, Syndee; grandchildren, Ashley Milinichik and her husband, Jake; Jessica Demsko; Joshua Silberberg and his wife, Kristen; Adam and Jared Silberberg; Jillian Levy; many loving nieces; nephews; grand nieces and nephews and great grandchildren.
