Horace Taylor Anthony of Cary, NC passed away on Tuesday, August 8, 2023 after reaching the age of 94 years old. After failing health, he died peacefully at Wake Med Cary Hospital with his daughter Susan, and son-in-law, Ronnie Chamberlain at his side.
Taylor is survived by his wife, Georgia of 72 years, two children, Susan Chamberlain (Ronnie) of Fuquay-Varina and Mark (Kelly) of Greenville, NC., four grandchildren, Michael Williams (Denise), Braxton Anthony (Bailey), Wilson Anthony (Taylor), Elizabeth Knowles (Barrett), 9 great-grandchildren, nephew, David Parker (Shirley) of Cary and nieces, Janie Pope of Greenville, SC, Janie Sulecki (Richard), Treva Hornaday (Terry), Edward Flinchum (Cheryl), and Melinda Madden (Wayne) all of Burlington, NC.
In 1951, Taylor married the love of his life, Georgia Huffman, at Low’s Lutheran Church in Liberty, N.C. This started a world adventure for the newly married couple, as Taylor proudly served for over 20 years in the United States Air Force with tours in Japan, Spain, New Mexico, Texas, California and North Carolina. In 1952, they welcomed their daughter Susan, born in Albuquerque, NM. Mark followed in 1955, born in Raleigh, NC.
Taylor and Georgia’s world journey continued in 1960 during their 4-year tour in Seville, Spain. The Anthony family experienced Seville’s Feria de Abril, Spanish flamenco dancing, bull fighting at the Plaza de Toros and a month-long sightseeing tour of the entire country of Spain, as well as visiting France, and Switzerland.
After Taylor’s 20 year US Air Force military career, he joined Dillon Supply’s Material Handling Department in Raleigh, NC retiring in 1991.
Life in retirement was centered around children and grandchildren at Kerr Lake with family gatherings, boating, waterskiing, fishing, fish fry’s and cookouts. Taylor and Georgia were long time members of First United Methodist Church in Cary, NC.
After their relocation to Fuquay-Varina in 2014, they were most fortunate to find a very warm, welcoming new church home in Fuquay-Varina United Methodist Church. They were especially blessed to find a very special fellowship in the Wesleyan Sunday School class, who have been instrumental in continuing to reach out, providing encouragement and support as they lost the ability to attend in person.
Taylor was predeceased by his father, John Wilson Anthony, mother Bertha Crawford Anthony, sister Margaret Parker Wright, and brothers Marshall Anthony, and Howard Anthony.
A Celebration of Life, officiated by Pastor Owen Barrow, will be held on Tuesday, August 15, 2023 in the Brown-Wynne Chapel located in Cary at 1:00 PM, with the family receiving relatives and friends beginning at 12:00 PM.
