He was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on December 12, 1933 to Henry Louis and Regina Grandpre. After graduating from Duquesne University and serving as a cryptographer in the Signal Corps of the United States Army, he began his professional career with Royal Insurance.
In nearly 25 years with Royal, he served in a variety of increasing management positions in Rochester, NY, New York, NY, Cleveland, OH, and Baltimore, MD. After working for Alexander & Alexander, now AON Corporation, for more than ten years, he retired in 1997.
Immediately after retiring, Bud became an active volunteer for Habitat for Humanity and helped build and renovate countless homes in Baltimore, MD, and in Wake County after relocating to Cary, NC, in 2005. He also began driving a weekly route for the Inter-Faith Food Shuttle to help reduce hunger. He was also active in the Heritage Pines community.
Bud was a man of strong faith and a member of St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church in Cary. He was an accomplished handyman and a lifelong Pittsburgh Steelers fan.
In addition to his parents, Bud was preceded in death by his stepmother, Madeline Grandpre, and three sisters, Mary Louise Grandpre, Cecil Mazur and Regina Grandpre.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Latus Grandpre, daughter, Joyce Lee and husband, Eric of Baldwin, MD; son, Chris Grandpre and wife, Susan, of Richmond, VA; daughter, Susan Krebs and husband, Tom, of Pittsboro, NC; sisters Sr. Geraldine Grandpre, CSJ, of Pittsburgh, and Sr. Mary Cecil (“Anne”) Grandpre, O.P., Columbus, OH; and eight grandchildren, Jameson Lee, Connor Lee, Nicholas Grandpre, Harrison Grandpre, Olivia Grandpre, Rose Krebs, Brian Krebs and Nicole Krebs.
A memorial mass will be held Friday, November 13, 2015 at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church, 804 High House Road, Cary at Noon with visitation one hour prior. Inurnment will follow in the church columbarium.
