Geraldine “Gerry” Foster, 91, passed away October 17, 2024 in Charlotte at the home of her daughter and surrounded by family after a brave battle against Alzheimer’s. Born May 24, 1933 in Pittsburgh, PA, she grew up with her parents, the late Leonard and Anna Bradley, and five siblings in Clairton. She married her late husband, Dallas, in 1956 and raised their young family in North Huntington Township, PA where Gerry was active at St. Agnes Catholic School and Church, the Westmoreland County Board of Elections, and Girl Scouts. In 1971, the family moved to Raleigh and spent 50 years on Irelan Drive. Gerry worked for Metropolitan Life, and continued her volunteer work at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Cary, serving in various ministries and organizing celebrations. After retirement, she worked at PNC Arena and started the Rosary Makers Club at St. Michael’s. Thousands of rosaries were sent to schools and missions around the world. Both she and Dallas were long-time members of the Little German Band and enjoyed many trips and performances. Dallas later formed his own band, Polka Plus, with Gerry as his favorite soloist.
Gerry was predeceased by her husband of 63 years, Dallas, and their eldest son, Dal Jr. who both passed away in 2019. She is survived by her daughter Julie (Larry), sons Mark (Janet) and Mike (Sue), 12 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren, her youngest brother Len Bradley (Patty) and dozens of extended family members. The family recognizes and is grateful for the many blessings God bestowed upon Gerry throughout her life, most especially in recent years. She never lost her kind and chatty nature, beautiful smile or sense of humor. While the disease takes many things, she never lost her desire to pray and offered a rosary just a few days before her death. The family would like to thank Hospice Via Health Partners of Charlotte for their loving care over the past year.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at St. Michael’s in Cary on Wednesday, October 23; 2024 at 11:30am. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to MiraVia, a maternity and aftercare home on the campus of Belmont Abbey College or NBFCure44, an advocacy and fundraising organization in honor of Gerry’s great-grandson who has Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy.
