George was born in Karpathos, Greece. He was a member of Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in Raleigh, and Saint Barbara’s Greek Orthodox Church in Durham, where he was a member of AHEPA. He was also a member of the Cary-Apex Elks Lodge. George was employed with the State of North Carolina for 15 years. He finished his career in the Division of Medical Assistance as the Data Warehouse Manager (DMA), where he worked with an exceptional group of people.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Zoe Moustakakis, brother, Bill Moustakakis; and sister, Anna Sakelliades.
Mr. Carr is survived by his loving wife of 34 years, Sophie Hiras Carr; son, Nick Carr; daughters, Zoe Carr and Mary Carr Babineau, and her husband, David Babineau; brothers, Alexios Moustakakis of Karpathos, Greece, and Pericles Moustakakis of Connecticut.
George arrived to the US in 1966 where he was a stranger not only to the land but to the language. He learned English and went on to graduate college with a degree in mathematics. He was a devoted husband and father, and someone that touched many lives. He had a great love for life and knew how to make people laugh. Although his seven-year battle with advanced prostate cancer may be considered over, for all of those that knew him, he was victorious. His memory will be eternal in the thoughts and hearts of those he knew and loved and in the stories they will share about him.
