Frank E. Butler Sr., 89, of Cary, NC, died peacefully in his sleep after a brief illness.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Carolynne Martin Butler, and his daughter and son-in-law Marta and Charlie Kerr.
He is survived by three children: Nancy Cornwell, Cathy Nelson, and Ed and Faith Butler; and eight grandchildren; and nine great grandchildren (one to arrive any day now) and close friends and companions Ron and Eve Stephenson; and brother Warren E. Butler of St. Augustine, FL.
Frank was born in Bonifay, Florida, to Evelyne and Dr. E. Frank Butler. He graduated from USC and in 1951 received his Master of Science. He worked for DuPont in Edgefield, SC, moving to Cary, NC in 1970 where he worked for the EPA until retiring in 1988.
As a member of the Westwood Baptist Church he found great fellowship and the blessings of his faith.
He enjoyed many interests including golf. He was a score keeper at the Masters in the early 1960’s. He enjoyed camping and traveling with his wife and family. He took pleasure in making smoking pipes after his retirement and a good cigar. His favorite life long hobby was vintage Jaguar automobiles in which he owned as many as 30 over his life. He was the first president of the “Carolina Jaguar Club” 1972-1973, and won several “best of” awards for his cars.
Visitation will be held Saturday, January 16th, 2016 at 1:00 pm, and a memorial service at 2:00 pm at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home in Cary.
