Frances Dillingham Chappell, 95, passed away Monday, November 07, 2016. She was born the last child of 8 to the late William Lyda and Mary Attie Arrowood Dillingham in Barnardsville, NC. Frances graduated from UNC-Greensboro and worked in Asheville and Charlotte as a hospital dietician and teacher. She taught home economics at Apex High School 1956-1967, then worked in Human Resources for the state until retirement in 1986.
She married Ernest Calvin Chappell in 1949. He preceded her in death in 1978.
She is survived by her daughter, Gwen Chappell Veazey, and her husband, Doug in Morganton, NC, and granddaughter, Elizabeth Veazey and husband, Ryan Wishart of Omaha, Nebraska; and a grandson, Scott Veazey and wife, Ashley Huffman Veazey of Belmont, NC and a great-grandson, West Kinchen Veazey and a great-granddaughter, Lyla Lane Veazey.
Frances was a kind, loving person who always put others first. She lived in Cary, NC most of her life and was a devoted and active member of Cary First Baptist Church. She moved to Grace Ridge Retirement Community in Morganton, NC in 2009 to be near her daughter.
Dr. Chris Haire will lead a memorial service at 3:00 PM on Saturday, Nov. 12 at Cary First Baptist Church. Visitation will be at 2:00.
