Born in Charleston, WV he was a son of the late Omer and Dorothy Spangler. Mr. Spangler served 30 years in the USAF and the retired. He then lived for over 34 years in Germany. A former golden glove boxing champ, he enjoyed bowling, golf, traveling and taking long walks with his wife. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Walter, Jerry and Melvin; and sister, Shirley.
Survivors include his wife of almost 60 years, Elfriede Spangler; daughter, Charlene (Dan) Brandes; son, Michael (Julie) Spangler; grandchildren, Stephen (Amanda) Brandes, Heidi Brandes, Allen Spangler; great grandchildren, Katelyn, Haley and Nicholas Brandes, Rosa Spangler; brothers, Roger and Jimmy; sisters, Janet, Faye, Carol, Mildred, Brenda, Thelma and Patricia; and several nieces and nephews.
Service will be held at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
