Elmer Elliott was born November 28, 1937 in Franksville, Alabama to the former Edwina Elliott and H. Whitley Johnson, Sr. He lived in Franksville on a farm with his grandparents, Papa Will and Mama Ida Elliott, much of his childhood. He served in the US Army from 1956 to 1958.
Elmer moved from Alabama to Michigan in the late 1950s. There he met and married his beloved, Alyce Marie Doward, on December 2, 1961. In 1964, their only surviving child, Lauri Elliott, was born.
Elmer received a Bachelor of Science degree in Education and, later, a Masters degree in Special Education from Eastern Michigan University. He worked for over 25 years for the State of Michigan. His last position was as a teacher at Maxey Boys Training School. He owned and operated Elliott Movers for over 20 years. He was a long-time resident of Ann Arbor, Michigan.
Elmer lived life fully and lovingly. Even in his later years, he was energized by doing for, and giving to, others while serving the Lord Jesus Christ. (Psalm 92:12-15) He faithfully served the Lord while attending different churches in Michigan and North Carolina. After retiring, he spent a lot of time volunteering for the Salvation Army and Big Brothers Big Sisters charity organizations. He was known particularly for mentoring young people and being an avid bell ringer for the Salvation Army. He was also politically active with a passion for justice and the disenfranchised.
He was a faithful, committed, loving, and sacrificing husband to Alyce and father to Lauri. His kindness and love poured over into others in his family and community. While his body has expired, he is still with us in the New Jerusalem, the City of God, that is coming to earth. (Isaiah 65:17-25; Revelations 21; Revelations 22)
