Ed had a long career working as a mechanical and electrical engineer with IBM and later with the North Carolina Employment Security Commission. Ed was a proud member of the US Coast Guard Auxiliary and in his retirement volunteered teaching at the Cary Senior Center.
Known as a kind and loving family man, Ed was devoted to his wife and children. He had a tremendous heart and was a loyal and generous friend. Ed’s love for his family was extraordinary. He cherished annual family beach trips, celebrating holidays, and sharing time together at Sunday family dinners.
In addition to his great love for his family, he had a love of the ocean, boating, fishing, hunting, working on cars, and tinkering with all things computer related.
Ed is survived by his wife of 54 years, Marilyn Mayer; his son, Mark Mayer and wife Amy and their daughters Katie an Abbey; and his daughter Laura Green and husband Rob. He was preceded in death by his son Matthew Mayer and his grandson Luke Mayer.
While he will be missed by so many…his family and numerous life-long friends, he leaves behind an incomparable legacy of love and compassion.
The family will celebrate his life with a memorial service on Monday, July 27, 2020 at 1PM at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, 200 SE Maynard Road, Cary, NC 27511.
