Edward was born September 26, 1941 in Essex County, NJ to the late Edward John Flynn Sr. and Bernice Polukord Flynn.
He was a graduate of Millburn High School in Millburn, NJ and 1963 graduate of Furman University in Greenville, SC. Edward was employed as a manager with K-Mart retail stores for over 35 years. He was a member of the Raleigh Elks Lodge #735, where he was involved with a program to interview many of our war veterans to archive their stories with the Library of Congress. Edward was an avid sports fan and was instrumental in establishing the CASL soccer league in the Cary area by serving as the coach of one of the first Cary teams, Apollos.
He was preceded in death by his brother Tom Flynn.
Edward is survived by his wife of 48 years, Beth Hale Flynn; daughter Denise Neibert and her husband, Michael of Raleigh; sons, Edward John Flynn III and his wife, Holly of Littleton, CO; and Brian Kenneth Flynn and his wife, Kimberly of Fuquay-Varina; brother, George Flynn and his wife, Linda of Newton, NJ; and six grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held 10:30 am Wednesday, June 12, 2013 at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home Chapel, 200 SE Maynard Road, Raleigh, NC 27511. The family will receive friends 6-8 pm Tuesday, June 11, 2013 at the funeral home.
