On October 13, 2020, Doris Elizabeth Ellis Clark, 76, joined her parents, Bernie and Rennie Ellis of Chatham County in Heaven. Doris graduated from Southern Durham High School in 1961 and then attended a 2 year clerical school. While in high school, Doris met the love of her life, Curtis Lane Clark, of Apex. They married in April of 1964. They were blessed with two sons, Christopher Lane in 1968 and Gregory Henton in 1970.
Doris remained at home caring for her sons until they were old enough to attend school. At that time, Doris began her career with the North Carolina Baptist State Convention where she eventually settled into the Communications Department. After 26 years of faithful service, she retired in 2001. She and Curtis renovated her childhood home and returned to Chatham County.
Doris had many passions in life, but none more than her family. She often said all she ever really wanted out of life was to be a mother and a grandmother. She spent many hours following and watching their athletic endeavors and other activities. Doris and Curtis enjoyed traveling together and listening to good gospel music. Doris was deeply committed to her Christian faith and a member of Athens Drive Baptist Church in Raleigh for over 40 years. Doris' passion was showing God's love by helping children. She spent many years working in the church nursery. She and Curtis also ministered to children by taking numerous mission trips with the church to Honduras. They also financially supported several Honduran children through the years.
Doris was a loving wife, devoted mother, grandmother and trusted friend.
Doris is survived by her husband, Curtis, of 56 years; children, Lane and Lisa Clark of Knightdale and Greg and Julie Clark of Stanton, NE; and grandchildren, Sarah, Wesley and William.
