Doris Jones Buchanan, embraced by family and friends, died Wednesday, August 4, 2010, after a brief illness. Doris was born November 1, 1924 to the late Wiley and Mary Jones, married to the late Shafter Buchanan, Jr. and was a life-long resident of Cary. A graduate of Cary High School and Fourie School of Art, she pursued her love of art throughout her life; from early detailed pen and ink wedding gown drawings for the Mother and Daughter Store to a unique collection of modern paintings she created in her own, rich, style.
She is survived by her brother, Dan W. Jones of Cary; sons, Curt Buchanan of Raleigh and Jace Buchanan of Morganton; grandchildren, Amy B. Orders of Apex, Ben Buchanan of Durham; and four great-grandchildren.
The family will greet friends Sunday, August 8, 2010 at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home in Cary, between 2-3 pm, followed by a funeral service at 3 pm. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Cemetery in Cary.
