David Nelson McDowell, 83, of Cary, NC, died on June 21, 2024 with his family by his side. He was the son of the late Warren J. McDowell and Frances (McElhenney) McDowell. He was born on May 19th, 1941 in Cornwall, NY. He is survived by his wife of nearly 62 years, Marilyn (Ahrens) McDowell. His three sons; Warren, Michael (Stephanie Poythress) and Kevin McDowell. One brother, Joe McDowell and four grandchildren, Josh, Heather, Michael, and Christi, and one great-grandchild, Ryder.
David was employed for 33 years for IBM and served as a Manager. He and Marilyn have been members of the First Reformed Church of Cary for over 47 years. David was an avid hunter and fisherman, served on his church's consistory, and loved to spend time in the outdoors with his sons in his spare time. He loved his family greatly, spending time at family gatherings and birthday parties when he could. David always thought of the family when scheduling anything, enjoying each experience with and through them. You could count on him being in attendance at his son's baseball games. He didn't complain when things were difficult but continued to take responsibility for the obligations before him. This was never more evident, and demonstrated more clearly, than, in his last few years of life, caring for his wife of nearly 62 years while being treated for his own cancer diagnosis. He had a charm about him and was always quick to respond with a word, some aphorism, adage, or proverb, and a wink of the eye. David is in the presence of JESUS, the risen and conquering SAVIOR, to WHOM he entrusted his soul to in guidance and honor. The family would love to thank Transitions Lifecare Center for the excellent care and compassion during these last days, as well as all those who called David, "friend". Peace and Rest is with your soul.
""But, as it is written, “What no eye has seen, nor ear heard, nor the heart of man imagined, what GOD has prepared for those who love HIM”" (1 Corinthians 2:9)
