Conrad Johnson, 73, died April 18, 2014. He was born in Ashland, WI on August 1, 1940 to Conrad and Lillian Johnson. Born under difficult circumstances, Conrad overcame and overachieved. He served in the US Air Force during particularly challenging times, such as the Berlin Wall Crisis and The Cuban Missile Crisis. After his discharge, he moved back to Wisconsin, where he married his wife of 50 years, Delores Kay Johnson (née Shaw). He fathered four children and graduated from Gateway Technical Institute of Racine, WI. He eventually worked with the Department of Defense, achieving a grade of GS-13, a fact of which he was particularly proud. After retiring, he moved to Cary, NC, where he made innumerable friends at local restaurants and the Cary Bridge Club.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by children, Robert Johnson of Cary, NC, Thomas Johnson of Petoskey, MI, Laura Johnson of Pittsburgh, PA, and Mary Johnson Stewart of Thornton, CO; grandchildren, Jeremiah and Annie Johnson of Petoskey, MI, and Thomas Johnson of Cary, NC; and sisters, Sherry Sack of Racine, WI and Judy Eastman of Ashland, WI. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Carol Easton and Darlene Larson, and son-in-law, Mitchell.
A memorial service will be held 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 23, 2014 at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, 200 SE Maynard Road, Cary, NC 27511.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in his memory may be made to the American Cancer Society.
