Connie Wells Flory died on Sunday, September 9th, 2024, from congenital heart failure. She was born Cornelia Josephine Wells in Rose Hill, Duplin County, NC, on December 7th, 1938 to Hugh McAden Wells and Louise Helen Hunter Wells.
Connie earned a B.S. in Home Economics from Flora MacDonald College (later Saint Andrews Presbyterian College). After college, she worked as a home economist for over ten years for Duke Power Company in Burlington, NC. After she married and had kids, she earned a Teacher Certification from Meredith College and worked as a substitute teacher in Alamance and Wake County Public School Systems.
One of her favorite things to do was to host guests at her home. She loved spending time with her family, friends, and neighbors. She was an excellent cook, seamstress, interior designer, and flower arranger. She found peace in sitting on her back deck with a glass of rosé wine, and in walking up and down Topsail Beach looking for shells, shark’s teeth, and sand dollars.
She was preceded in death by her four brothers, Hugh McAden Wells, Baxter Hunter Wells Sr., Alfred Diocles Wells Sr., & Donn Allison Wells. She was also preceded in death by her stillborn daughter, Ginger Lenae Flory, and her son, Timothy Dean Flory. Also preceding her in death was her husband of almost 50 years, Joseph Roland Flory.
She is survived by her son, Joseph Daniel Flory, of Apex, and her grandchildren Peter Dean Flory and Grace Rosalynn Flory.
Funeral services will be held at Kirk of Kildaire Presbyterian Church in Cary, NC, at 11:00am on Friday, October 11th, 2024. A graveside service will be held at Rockfish Memorial Cemetery in Wallace, NC, at 2:00pm later that day.
