Charles was born December 6, 1928 in Drayton, SC to the late Tracy Landers and Jessie Hughes Landers. He was a WWII veteran of the US Navy Air Corp. Charles attended the University of Central Florida. He was employed as an engineer with NASA for over 20 years and as a planner for the National Institute of Environmental Health Services in the Research Triangle Park for over 15 years. Charles was a member of the American Legion, Masonic Lodge and the First Baptist Church of Cary.
He was preceded in death by twin daughter, Tracy Hoyt.
Charles is survived by his wife of 10 years, Mary Davis Landers; sons, Chris Landers of Titusville, FL; and Todd Landers and his wife, Kim of Rockledge, FL; daughters, Trudy Veber and her husband, David of Hialeah, FL; Debbie Marbut and her husband, Mike of Coco Beach, FL; and Kelly Russell and her husband, TJ of Willow Spring; step-daughters, Julie Wright and her husband, Don of Apex; Veda Williams and her husband, Les of Cary; step-son, Tim Gardner of Clayton; 11 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; 5 step-grandchildren; and 2 step-great grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held 11 am Tuesday, December 11, 2012 at First Baptist Church of Cary, 218 S. Academy Street, Cary, NC 27511. The family will receive friends 10-11 am immediately prior to the service at the church. Burial will follow at 1 pm Wednesday, December 12, 2012 at Greenlawn Cemetery in Spartanburg, SC.
