Carlos Yates Jordan, a true Cary native, passed away on Saturday, October 21, 2023 in Cary, NC. “C Y”, as he was known, was born at home on July 16, 1927 on East Chatham Street in Cary. A 1944 graduate of Cary High School, C Y went on to North Carolina State College (now NCSU) to study civil engineering. He left NC State to join the U S Navy in 1945 and served one year, one month and 11 days before being honorably discharged. He resumed his studies at State, graduating with a BS degree in civil engineering in 1950. He returned to active duty in the Army a few years later, coincidentally serving 1 year, 1 month and 11 days. He worked throughout his life as a registered surveyor, developer and residential home builder in Cary, and as a civil engineer with the Seaboard Coastline Railroad, now CSX. After retirement, he restored a historic property in Beaufort, NC and volunteered for many years as a North Carolina Train Host with Amtrak between Cary and Charlotte, assisting and interacting with passengers along the route.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George Henry Jordan, Sr. and Annie Mae Beasley Jordan, brothers George Henry Jordan, Jr and James Jordan, sister Marjorie Beasley Jordan Matthews, and first wife Dollie Gray Morris Jordan.
He is survived by his second wife, Dorothy Thomas Jordan; daughter, Carla Marie Jordan Michaels (Mike); son James Wright Jordan; step-daughter, Tamara Lynn Sanderford; grandchildren, Anna Grey Michaels, Lauren Elizabeth Jordan, and James Wright Jordan II. Other beloved family members include his sister-in-law, Jennie Morris Pegram, Elizabeth Dominick Jordan; and many nieces and nephews.
