Austin Rich Jr., 81, went home to be with the Lord Monday, August 15, 2011 after a brief illness. He was born February 21, 1930 in Garland, NC to the late Austin and Margaret Ashie (Blackburn) Rich Sr. Rich was a barber in Cary for 56 years and was the owner of Rich’s Roffler Style Shop. He founded the American Legion Baseball Program in Cary and served as the Athletic Director for 25 years.
Austin is survived by his wife of 51 years, Kay (Issette) Rich of Cary, NC; son, Dwayne Austin Rich (Cynthia) of Fuquay-Varina, NC, daughter, Glynda Kay Rich of Cary, NC; 2 grandsons, Matthew Jordan Rogers and Joshua Tyler Rogers; several nieces and nephews.
Austin was preceded in death by 7 sisters.
A celebration of his life will be held at 2:00 PM, Thursday, August 18, 2011 at Westwood Baptist Church in Cary. Burial will follow with Military and Masonic honors at Raleigh Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 12-2 p.m. at the church prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Westwood Baptist Church Youth Missions, the Boys and Girls Home at Lake Waccamaw, The Gideon’s Bible Ministry, Rex Hospital Foundation or the Oxford Orphanage.
