Arthur Lee Hill IV, 56, beloved husband, father, brother, son, uncle and friend, passed away on March 23, 2025. Lee was born on June 20, 1968, to Arthur Lee Hill III and Christie Hill Ferrell in Durham, NC. He attended Northern Durham High School, graduating in 1986 as the class Valedictorian. He then attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, receiving his BSBA degree in 1990 and his Juris Doctor in 1993. Lee enjoyed a long, successful career with Sony as Senior Intellectual Property Counsel.
Lee and Shelly’s journey began at UNC, where they met and fell in love. Following Lee’s graduation from law school, they married and built a life together in Cary, NC. Lee and Shelly were a perfect match, and even during the busiest of times, they made their date nights a priority. Through their love and devotion to one another, they set a beautiful example for their children, Taylor and Dunning, of what a kind and nurturing partnership truly looks like.
He was a proud and enthusiastic dad. Lee could often be found at the ice rink, cheering on Dunning at early morning hockey practices and games, and encouraging Taylor as she participated in competitive cheerleading. While the children attended Cary Academy, Lee supported and encouraged them in a wide range of sports and academic achievements. Lee was a devoted parent who took great pride in supporting Taylor and Dunning as they embarked on their college journeys. He found immense joy in watching them grow, pursue their dreams, and achieve independence, always offering love and guidance along the way.
Throughout his distinguished career, he was known not only for his exceptional legal skills but also for his kind heart, integrity, and ability to foster strong relationships with colleagues. A truly gifted lawyer, Lee was highly regarded by all who had the privilege of working with him. His legal acumen was matched only by his ability to navigate complex negotiations with grace, skill, and a sense of humor. Even in the most adversarial situations, he had an extraordinary ability to keep the mood light and work towards amicable resolutions, earning the respect and admiration of everyone involved.
Lee was widely known for his quick-witted sense of humor, filling an entire room with smiles and laughter. He loved attending basketball and football games, and cheering for his treasured Tarheels. Lee’s love of music showed in his playlists filled with REM, Pixies, Smashing Pumpkins, Dinosaur Jr., and the Smith’s, just to name a few, which could be heard at full volume on weekend mornings to wake up the family. Lee was always quick to join a driveway tailgate, a spontaneous gathering, weekend trips, game day, or any other adventure with his close-knit group of friends. He was intentional about living a full, meaningful life—focused on quality time with family, deepening old friendships, and forging new connections along the way. His presence brought people together, and he made every moment count.
Even as his health declined in recent years, Lee’s spirit never faltered. He faced every challenge with courage, grace, and unwavering positivity. He never once complained, and he continued to lift those around him with his trademark wit and warmth. His resilience and light-heartedness, even in the hardest moments, were a true testament to his strength of character.
