Alice Marie Logan Shorts

Alice Marie Logan Shorts was born November 8, 1948 in Norfolk, Virginia to Rev. Thomas Edison Logan and the late Mary Lee Leach Dawkins Logan of Conover, North Carolina. Alice was married to her soul mate, the late Bruce Caulbert Shorts and she was the sister of the late Lemuel Dawkins of High Point, North Carolina; granddaughter of the late Alice Leach and Elford Dawkins Sr. of Cherokee, SC and Jimmy Logan (Mamie) of Henrietta, NC.

Alice Marie, fondly called “Ree” by her family and friends, graduated from William Penn High School in High Point, North Carolina and attended GTI in Jamestown, North Carolina, Norfolk State in Norfolk, Virginia and The Culinary Institute of America in New York.

Alice worked as a Chef Supervisor and Catering Chef for Sodexho Marriott/Rtec Training Center in Raleigh, NC at Nortel where she operated her own Unit. Alice believes in the golden rule; do unto others as you would have them do unto you.

Alice was a member of Mount Zion Church in Cary, North Carolina where she served in the choir.

Alice leaves to cherish her memory: her sons, Cassears Antonio Shorts of Apex, NC, Colmal Thomas Shorts of Morrisville, NC and stepson Stefon Shorts of Silver Springs, MD; her father, Rev. Thomas E. Logan of Conover, NC; sisters, Gloria Hert and Mary Studderton of High Point, NC and Patricia Carter of Winston Salem, NC. She also leaves behind a host of family and friends, too numerous to name, to honor her memory.

A memorial service will be held 12:00 pm Saturday, July 7, 2012 at Mt. Zion Church, 316 Allen Lewis Drive, Cary, NC 27513. The family will receive friends 9:00-11:00 am prior to the service at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, 200 SE Maynard Road, Cary, NC 27511.
