He was born August 27, 1937 in Washington, NC a son of William and Lucille Dixon Marsh. He married Melba Lucille Moore. She preceded him in death.
He was also preceded in death by four sisters, Ethel Honey Marsh, Lillie Grace Harris, Bertha Gorham, and Mary English; four brothers, William Marsh Jr., Samuel Marsh, James Marsh, and Peter Marsh; and two infant siblings.
Surviving are his children, Alexander Marsh Jr. (and wife Valerie J.) of Holly Springs, Demetric “Dee” Marsh (and husband, Michael R. Fennell) of Holly Springs, Jacqueline Marsh-Benson (and husband, Thomas F.) of Plainsboro, NJ, and Dr. Kendra Marsh-Kates, M.D. (and husband, Kenneth L.) of Green Bay, WI; three granddaughters, Victoria Evelyn Marsh, Alexis Lily Marsh-Fennell, Amaya Melba Marsh-Fennell all of Holly Springs; sister-in-law, Evelyn Moore (and husband, Mitchell Sr.) of Washington, NC; and several other loving nieces, nephews, and extended family.
Mr. Marsh worked for the Diocese of Rockville Centre in NY retiring after 30 years. He was a devoted member of St. Michael the Archangel, a loving husband, father, grandfather, and uncle. Mr. Marsh had a passion for music especially Nat King Cole and was an avid car enthusiast. He had a giving heart and was fearless. His door was always open to all who knew him.
A mass of Christian burial will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, December 23, 2015 at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church in Cary. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. A graveside service will be at Cedar Hill Cemetery in Washington, NC at 3 p.m. Wednesday.
