Willie Richard Elrod, 77, of Cartersville, GA passed away Friday, March 27, 2020 at Cartersville Medical Center. Richard was born in Pine Log, Georgia on August 10, 1942 to the late Davis and Mary Alice Elrod.
Richard retired from Clorox (formerly Union Carbide) where he was employed for 29 years. He also served in the National Guard. Richard was an active member of Olivine Baptist Church in Pine Log.
Richard is survived by his wife of 56 years, Linda Herndon Elrod, son, Brad Elrod, daughter Kimm (Sam) Smith, grandchildren, Tyler (Hillary) Smith and MacKenzie Smith, and great-granddaughter, Tatum Smith. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Donald "Willis" Elrod and Harry Dale Elrod.
Due to recent concerns over COVID-19, the family will have a private graveside ceremony at Sunset Memory Gardens with the Reverend Sanford Fountain officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family request that memorial donations be made to Olivine Baptist Church, c/o Donny Ruff, 56 Findley Road, Rydal, GA, 30171. Owen Funeral Home, 12 Collins Dr Cartersville, GA, is in charge of the arrangements
