Christine Root and widow of John H. Feek died February 17 after a brief illness.
Nancy grew up in Scranton, Pennsylvania on the banks of the Lackawanna River. The
youngest of five children, and the apple of her father’s eye, she grew up in a close-knit
household. All through school Nancy was an active chorus and theater member, and even was a
member of the Civil Air Patrol.
On February 21, 1953, Nancy married the love of her life John Harrison Feek, who precedes her
in death. The love they shared was palpable and never waned a day. She is survived by the pride
and joys of her life, sons, Dale Feek (Cathy) and Kerry Feek (Freda),
grandchildren David Feek (Tiffany) and Bonnie Feek, and great-grandchild Taylor
Feek.
She seemed never to meet a stranger with her signature smile and butterflies. Always quick to
send a kind card and quick joke, Nancy believed in praying for and encouraging people however
she could. Even after two hip replacements, she and John loved to square dance, and was a board
member of the Georgia State Square Dancers Association for a number of years.
After the death of her husband, Nancy took an active role in her Rockmart community. She
became the secretary of the Euharlee Valley Historical Society, taking on a role in the
Preservation of the Van Wert Church, was a founding member of the Rockmart History Museum,
and was a committee member for Welshfest.
Nancy loved art and her friends in the Artscapes art group, of which she was the treasurer. She
loved to sing, which was evidenced by taking part in Rockmart United Methodist Church choir
and the Rockmart Community Chorus. She was always up for an adventure, and she loved
traveling with her family.
Wordsworth said “What though the radiance which was once so bright/ Be now for ever taken
from my sight,/ Though nothing can bring back the hour/ Of splendor in the grass,/ of glory in
the flower,/ We will grieve not, rather find/ Strength in what remains behind…” What remains of
Nancy Jean Feek is her enduring love.
A memorial service will be held at 11am on Saturday, February 25, 2023, at Rockmart United
Methodist Church.
