Mary Nell Fortenberry

Mrs. Fortenberry was born on June 22, 1928 in Cartersville, GA, daughter of the late Carl and Ida Springfield.

Mrs. Fortenberry was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She was known to all as a caregiver, helping raise her brother and sisters and two children of her own. She also had a great love of music. She was a proud and active member of Sam Jones United Methodist Church.

She is preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, William Dayton Fortenberry; brother, Carl W. Springfield; sisters, Dorothy Carson and Hazel Leatherwood.

Survivors include her son and daughter in law, Don & Gail Fortenberry; daughter and son-in-law, Dede and Hank Hatfield, all of Cartersville; grandchildren, Haley and Andrew Wilson, Hannah and Zack Hardy and Alex Fortenberry; five great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews, including special nephew, Dane Vaughan.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at two o’clock in the afternoon on Friday, January 30, 2015 in the Chapel of Owen Funeral Home with Rev. Nena Jones officiating. Interment will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery.

Serving as pallbearers are Alex Fortenberry, Dane Vaughan, Andrew Wilson and Zack Hardy.

Visitation will be held from eleven-thirty in the morning until service time, Friday, January 30, 2015 at Owen Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Sam Jones United Methodist Church.
