Miss Lois Evelyn Long, 88, returned to her heavenly home on Wednesday, June 22, 2022 after a valiant battle with a long term illness. Her devotion to her family and firm belief in God supported her and gave her peace.
Lois was born to the late Dallas Tillman Long, Sr. and Annie Cowart Long in Bartow County on October 6, 1933. One of 14 children, she is preceded in death by her parents; brothers Robert L. Long and Dallas T. Long Jr.; and sisters Jean Long Morgan, Evelyn Long Walker, and Nancy Long. Additionally, she was preceded in death by five siblings who passed away early in life, including Doris, Hubert, Herbert, Ralph, and Martin.
Survivors include her sisters Joyce (Harley) Glass of Acworth; Martha (Terry) Lowery of Kennesaw; and Griffin (Charlene) Long of Cartersville. She is also survived by 13 nieces and nephews, numerous grand and great-grand nieces and nephews, as well as friends and other loved ones.
In 1959 Lois moved from Bartow County to Atlanta where she began working at St. Joseph Hospital in the nursing department. For more than 40 years she worked with patients there and maintained her home in Atlanta. A caregiver at heart, she was always kind and soft-spoken. She made herself available and ready to take on the tasks of giving back to others. She is dearly missed by her loved ones, who celebrate the fact that she is at peace with her creator.
An active member of First Baptist Church of Atlanta under Dr. Charles Stanley, Lois called her siblings daily and loved to watch the Atlanta Braves. In 2013 she returned to Cartersville to live the remainder of her life, becoming a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church and ultimately a resident of Townsend Park where she made many friends with residents and staff.
A graveside service will be conducted at 10:30 am on Tuesday, June 28, 2022 at Sunset Memory Gardens with Rev. Kenny Jacobs officiating. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, June 28, 2022 from 9 until 10 am.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations may be made to the Bread of Life Ministry at Tabernacle Baptist Church in Cartersville.
