Johnny Earl Massey

Johnny Earl Massey, age 64, of Cartersville, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, November 15, 2022 at Piedmont Cartersville Medical Center, surrounded by his loving family. He was a native of Cartersville, a 1976 graduate of Cass High School, where he played basketball. He started working for the Etowah Consolidated Housing Authority when he was sixteen years old and worked his way up to the Executive Director. His tenure there allowed him to be instrumental in the rebuilding and revitalization of the Summer Hill Complex. His greatest joy was helping people in all walks of life including coaching both AAU and recreation basketball to youth in his community. He participated in all sports throughout his life including running track, baseball and football. He later worked with American Residential Communities as a Regional Property Manager in metro Atlanta, before he retired.

He is preceded in death by his mother, Betty Gravley Massey.

Survivors include his loving wife of thirty years, Julie Frew Massey; daughters, Jessica Erin Posey (Bobby) and Juliet Laura Massey; father, Buddy Massey (Pat); brother, Jeff (Lisa) Massey; grandson, Bobby Earl Babb, Jr.; nephew, Patrick Massey; he is also survived by many aunts, cousins, close friends and his dog, Cheney.

Graveside services will be conducted at two-thirty in the afternoon on Monday, the 21st of November, 2022 at Oak Hill Cemetery with Rev. Forrest Leachman officiating.

Serving as pallbearers are Rex Abernathy, Bobby Babb, Russell Bailey, Steve Bennett, Joe Davis, Jerry Gravley, Tim Massey, Ricky McFarland.

Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from twelve o’clock in the afternoon until two on Monday, the 21st of November, 2022 at Owen Funeral Home.
